Entrance to the Palazzo Basile Vasari at Santa Lucia del Mela . Built by Don Antonino Basile(1718-1792) , Monsignore della Prelatura Nullius di Santa Lucia del Mela and his brother Don Giuseppe(1727-1792) in 1750 , the palazzo is in the Sicilian Baroque style . Today it is a protected building under the Cultural Heritage scheme . Inside , the vaulted ceilings are decorated with frescoes depicting flowers and vines . There are also paintings of the Basile family (1740-1760) and one painting of the Blessed Antonio Franco , the work of the painter Gasparre Virzini(1751) . In the small piazza at the front of the palazzo is an ancient well .
The writer Michele Basile and the futuristic poet Ruggero Vasari both lived in this palace .
Michele Basile (1832-1907) was Professor Emeritus a full-time Professor of Political Geography in the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy at the Royal University of Messina . A scholar and writer , he published works on politics and social sciences , including famousely Concerning the Connections between Public Finance and the Moral and the Social Sciences-edition Pappalardo , 1853- and The Electoral Doctrines of a Primitive edited by D'Amico in 1892 . In 1896 he published the romantic treatise If We Could Live Our Lives Again and , in 1900 , Everlasting Love , edition Dante Alighieri . In 1906 , he published Electric Trams.ed.Nicastro- a work which is still relevant in terms of addressing the environmental impacts of transport .

Ruggero Vasari is known as the epitome of poetic Futurismus . Vasari has published the stage plays :
Three Red Rockets-Masquerade of the Impotent-The Anguish of Machines-and Tung-ci- Raun ;and the collection of poetry : Come to Capricorn essays on Thaatrical Criticism , Arts and Letters: Die Italienishe Dichtung der Gegenwart - Junges Italien - Flugmalerei - Wir haben gewacht.
Unpublished Works include : The Anti-Christ - Prampolini - Symphony of the Metropolis - The Penguin Dance .
The Works of Vasari have been translated in other languages : The Anguish of Machines was staged for the first time in Paris in 1926 at the Theatre of Art et Action with the music by Silvio Mix and was translated into German , English , Russian , French and Japanese ; and il Raun into German . Sculptors like Prampolini , and the painters Depero, Balla, Marasco, Pannaggi have dedicated their sculpture and paintings to him .
